Transitions2 Conference

Transitions2 Huddersfield University April 2018

The culmination of all the work!
The conference was absolutely fascinating, I attended on both days to assist the management and organisational team. The talks were extremely varied in subject matter as was to be expected from the breadth of conference themes.
I engaged particularly with the academic papers, noting not only the content but how each was structured and presented.

It was of great value to have so many different styles in a short period of time and to note what was particularly engaging in the power points (short video clips, vibrant images) and what I found hard to maintain focus for (extensive text that simply repeated the speakers words) Sign posting the content at the beginning of the talk and also keeping to time.

I was slightly surprised at how badly over time many of the speakers went, especially considering people tend to talk faster when in front of others and are nervous. This was managed on the second day at Jo Harris's request, by my holding up a 5minute to go and 1 minute to go card for the speakers to respond to. it did seem to work, although many delegates simply spoke faster instead of honing down the content.

I shall attempt to use these insights when preparing our own Team Robot power-point and presentation.

The exhibition of posters looked very good in the atrium. We also had the website available to navigate on a plinth displayed laptop. Delegates were very generous with their time and praise. I managed to speak in depth to several including Mark from PTC, one of my original inspirations via the Thingworks augmented reality app.

Feedback from delegates was encouraging with several suggesting it had the possibility to be taken further as a viable real-world project. The concept was warmly received as well as the visual design

The all-vegetarian canapes were amazing as well.
